Under the term worldviews this thesis elaborates on some key topics to restrict this seemingly hazy term. In the study it is shown that they do not represent completely ‘pessimistic’ or ‘optimistic’ worldviews, but rather include both. These works of the two authors are set into a comparative interpretation, focusing on some major similarities and differences that can be found between them. More specifically, among the primary works, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and Howard’s stories of Conan the Cimmerian are interpreted.

The current paper intends to examine their works in terms of the worldviews they represented in their works. Tolkien are commonly mentioned as the two great founding fathers of the modern fantasy genre of literature.
